Hypnosis
The induction of a trance state and the use of therapeutic suggestion to treat a variety of psychological and addiction disorders.
Hypnosis is commonly misunderstood; however in qualified and professional hands it is a safe and effective way to treat a range of conditions. Essentially the therapist helps to bring about an altered state in you, the patient, that allows the therapist greater impact on your condition and increase your use of internal resources.
Hypnosis is frequently used either independently or in concert with other treatments, including weight problems, addictions such as smoking and drug use, the management of pain and for phobias such as the fear of flying or agoraphobia.
Kathy uses Hypnosis in many of her treatments where it is felt necessary or as a part of her treatment, with quite outstanding success. The sessions can be recorded and a CD produced for patients to continue to use Kathy’s treatments at home.
The term hypnosis comes from the name of Hypnos, the ancient god of dreams. Hypnosis was a central feature of the early Greek healing temples, and variations of these techniques were practiced throughout the ancient world.
Modern hypnosis began in the eighteenth century with Franz Anton Mesmer (where the word mesmerize originates), who used what he called "magnetic healing" to treat a variety of psychological and psycho physiological disorders, such as hysterical blindness, paralysis, headaches, and joint pains.
In the past 50 years hypnosis has experienced resurgence, first with physicians and dentists and more recently with psychologists and other mental health professionals.
